Where is the cheapest place to buy a Speedstream 4200 in Australia?
The Siemens Speedstream 4200 is not available for sale from normal retail sources. Siemens only sells the router to large telecommunications companies as part of its value proposition is that it customises the router for each inidvidual ISP. In Australia, this means that only Telstra (custom firmware), Optus (custom firmware) and TransACT (generic firmware) have supplied these routers and Telstra no longer does so. Nonetheless, you can find both Telstra-supplied and Optus-supplied units offered for sale, often in unused condition, at Australian online auction sites where they can be picked up for around $25 including postage.

Speedstream 4200 hardware notes
- The Siemens Speedstream 4100/4200 use the Texas Instruments AR7 TNETD7300A chipset and have 2 megabytes of RAM. The amount of free memory depends on the version of the firmware being used.
- The Texas Instruments AR7 is the fully integrated single-chip ADSL CPE access router solution comprising:
- An integrated, high performance MIPS 32-Bit RISC processor;
- ADSL PHY subsystem based on TI C62x DSP, with integrated transceiver, coder/decoder (Codec), line driver, and line receiver;
- Hardware accelerated ATM Segmentation and Reassembly (SAR);
- Integrated IEEE 802.3 Ethernet PHY;
- Two IEEE 802.3 Ethernet Memory Access Controllers (MACs) with integrated Media Independent Interface (MII) and ATM Quality of Service (QoS);
- Integrated USB 1.1-compliant slave interface;
- Two VLYNQ high-speed point-to-point serial interfaces for compatible high-speed expansion devices;
- Two 16c550 compatible UARTs;
- JTAG test access port controller, Enhanced JTAG (EJTAG) for MIPS, DSP JTAG interface for debug;

Note: Telstra supplied Speedstream 4200s have the VoIP Port 5060 blocked! You can fix this by using a non-Telstra firmware.
