How to host a public subnet
Using the Speedstream 4200's web interface:
- Use the Login option and login with the username admin and the password admin (Telstra/Generic/TransACT) or [return] (Optus);
- Use the Setup > DHCP option and click the "disable" DHCP server option - click the "save settings" button at the bottom;
- Use the Setup > NAT/NAPT option and set "NAT & NAPT disabled" to "yes" - click the "apply" button;
- Use the Setup > Firewall > Level option and set the firewall to off - click the "apply" button;
- Use the Setup > Host option to set the IP address (use your first routable public IP address; not the first IP address in the subnet!) and set your IP netmask, set the gateway to "Use WAN" - click "save settings";
- The router should now be be inaccessible after the IP change.
- Setup the individual computers/devices/servers with the other usable public IP addresses in your subnet.
- Test by pinging well-known Internet host like www.google.com from one of your public IP addresses;
- Test by pinging your router's public IP address from one of your public IP addresses;
- Test by pinging your router's public IP addresses from outside of your subnet (ie from the other side of your router);
- Test by pinging one of your public IP addresses from outside of your subnet (ie from the other side of your router);
- If any of the ping tests fail, recheck all settings and retest;
- Configure firewalls on your publicly addressable computers/devices as they are now all wide open to the Internet.
