Problem: I was condemned to using the CLI to configure my DSL-500 after conducting a number of firmware version experiments and then downgrading to version T8au.
I could only access the web interface if I did not change the default IP address (192.168.0.1) of the router. If I did change the IP address, it complained that the password was incorrect. It was not! I could check the inituser file in the isfs and flashfs flash file systems and see that I had both the correct username and the correct password.
This only occurred with the T8 firmware version. The T20 and T23 firmware versions would allow me to login to the web interface and did not complain of an incorrect password.
Solution: I finally tracked this problem down to the fact that I had used the iphostname command in the ip> section to associate hostnames with IP addresses. The problem was solved by:
> ip iphostname flush
> config save
> flashfs update
> restart
which blows away the ipaddresses file in the isfs flash file system and the flashfs file system.
