The default telnet password for the DSL-500 and DSL-504 is private.
To change the telnet password, you can use the serial console or telnet (if you already know the password) as follows:
> snmp access delete private
> snmp access write mypwd
> config save
> flashfs update
> restart
When your router restarts, the new telnet password "mypwd" will be active.
Note: The telnet password is also used as the SNMP writable community name. If you change it, you may need to adjust any SNMP application which you may be using (eg my DSL-50X Utility :-) to use the new name.
