SNMP Utility for the BIPAC-741GE and BIPAC-743GE ADSL routers

SYSLOG server setup required before you can use the utility's syslog server
- Please refer to the "Router setup" instructions for setting up the router's remote syslog facility here or consult the utility's help file.
- Note: You do NOT have to setup a remote loghost server - the utility performs this function.
SNMP firmware version notes
- There were additional SNMP enhancements to firmware v4.22e and v4.22f to provide ADSL line statistics.
- There were a number of bugfixes to firmware v4.22c which require at least v0.0.1.7 of the utility for the Quota monitor and SYSLOG features to operate correctly.
- If you have upgraded your BIPAC-741GE to firmware v4.21d, you should not need to setup read-only or read-write SNMP community names as documented in the readme_first.txt file included in the above archive. Firmware v4.21d sets up a default read-only SNMP community name of public and a read-write SNMP community name of password. Use the read-write SNMP community name if you wish to change any values using SNMP.
- If you have already setup SNMP community names while using firmware v4.21c, and you upgrade to firmware v4.21d, you may need to manually fix the SNMP community names as documented in the readme_first.txt file as they can become corrupted after the upgrade. The best idea is probably to do a factory reset and then re-configure the router (this fixes the SNMP entries).

Firmware version notes
These firmware version notes apply equally to both the BIPAC-741GEV1 (with USB port), BIPAC-741GEV2 (no USB port)
and BIPAC-743GE (wireless enabled) except that the BIPAC-741 series do not include the additional
wireless facility.

- Enable PVC auto-scan functions to detect provisioning VPI/VCI and protocols.
- Can now support different protocols like PPPoA, PPPoE, RFC1483 LLC/VCMux, bridged/routed, dynamic/fixed IP.
- Wireless: fixed the wireless 'Disable' function failed when applying 'Apply' button in wireless webpage or changing any wireless settings (BIPAC 743GE only).
- Virtual Server: when Protocol is non-TCP/UDP, the port range will be automatically adjusted.
- Port range (0~0) means no port information in current version.

- Fixed a bug to restore Factory Settings via Reset Button which caused system to crash.
- Fixed URL Filter where domain is 'example.com/test.html' wouldn't work correctly.

- Added report of ADSL line condition in SNMP module.
- Modified the management of NAT translation table to solve emule, VIX and other issues.
- Also added new CLI commands to allow users to adjust the TCP/UDP/other session timeout values. The new CLI commands are:
- 'nat set translation tcp-timeout', for TCP sessions.
- 'nat set translation udp-timeout', for UDP sessions.
- 'nat set translation timeout', for others.
- 'nat show translation', show some NAT internal status, not implemented yet.
- 'nat clear translations', flush the NAT table if needed, not implemented yet.
- The default TCP timeout value has changed back to 30 min from 5 min in this firmware version. This should solve the users that are using VIX and still use 4.21c firmware.
- Fixed the bug when Firewall is disabled, trying to add port filters will cause VPN/PPTP and VPN/IPSec data traffic to stop.
- SNTP Client (Time Zone): changed the default Re-sync time interval from 1 minute to 1 hour and increased the time range from 0..30 minutes to 0..9999 min. Please note: in order to take effect, make sure to do a factory reset.
- VPN/PPTP: enhanced to support 56bit MPPE.
- SNMP: fixed the wrong type for ifAdminStatus and ifOperStatus in loopback interface.
- PPPoE: fixed the problem of hard to reconnect with some ISP's PPPoE servers.
- VPN/PPTP: fixed multiple (more than 3) PPTP dial-in session that didn't work correctly.
- VPN/PPTP: fixed a problem of failed to connect to some PPTP servers due to early IPCP Terminate Ack.

- VPN/PPTP: solved the dial-out to PPTP server issue when it uses Dynamic DNS and the IP address has changed.

- IPSec/IKE: reduced the memory utilization
- Allows user to control whether to open firewall/portfilter automatically when creating virtual servers manually or via UPnP.
- Added new CLI command to check email immediately, 'mailcheck set checknow'
- New CLI commands added below:
- 'security [enable|disable] trigger resvmap enable/disable the trigger NAT resvmap to add port filter in the firewall. Default is disabled.
- 'security [enable|disable] trigger upnp' enable/disable the trigger upnp to add port filter in the firewall. Default is enabled. This is the same as original settings.
- 'security status' shows the current security status, including trigger status; For example, Security enabled. Firewall enabled. Firewall security level: low. Firewall session logging disabled. Firewall blocking logging disabled. Firewall intrusion logging disabled. Firewall resvmap trigger enabled. Firewall upnp trigger enabled. NAT enabled on ipwan.
- Fixed the bug when using bogus HTTP request via telnet.
- Fixed the problem that syslog message cannot go thru IPSec VPN tunnel.
- New CLI command, 'system syslog set bindaddr' to specify the local IP address. By default, it is 0.0.0.0; if need to go through, please set to router's LAN IP, e.g. 192.168.1.254.
- Fixed the problem of using MSN audio under firewall enabled.
- Fixed the problem when enabling Remote Access in web under NAT is disabled, the system will crash.
- Fixed the problem that backup configuration sometimes fails.
- Fixed the bug when DHCP client tried to release IP address while the ADSL line is not UP.

- Known Issues:
- MSN video cannot work when firewall is enabled;
- The reconnection of VPN PPTP tunnel cannot work correctly for forwarding data packet when the first connection was disconnected with data flowing. If user waits for 5 minutes, then to reconnect the tunnel, the problem will disappear.
- Version 4.55, 12 August 2004
- Version 4.55 of the firmware is the first release version following 4.25. As this version represents an almost complete replacement of the router's codebase, only major feature and function changes are listed below. Users should find that the codebase replacement greatly improves the reliability of their router.
- Virtual Server/port forwarding now allows for a redirection in the destination (LAN) port number/range.
- URL (web) filtering functionality has been improved, and now allows for blocking of Java applets as well as greater control over filtering.
- SNMP V3 is now supported.
- The firewall now allows users to block ping responses from the router without the need for blocking all ICMP traffic.
- Due to a replacement of the router's ADSL DSP code, latency has been decreased (improved) for connections through the router.
- A factory reset must be performed after updating your router's firmware from 4.25 to 4.55. It is recommended that users update their firmware using a wired/Ethernet connection.
- Version 4.56b [Internal BETA]
- Change DHCP Discover/Request packets in DHCP client module to speed up getting IP. Also apply to auto-scan function.
- NAT will be disabled when changing to RFC1483 pure bridge mode.
- Increase the restart count-down timer to 60 sec.

- Redesigned firewall packet filter rule configuration to allow configuring of IP address and port at same time, enable/disable and time scheduling, enter rule name for mnemonic purpose, filtering rules based on both source and destination port ranges.

- Moved Firewall/MAC Address Filter to LAN/Ethernet Client Filter, and increase the table size up to 16 entries.
- Enhance Time Schedule to accept time period overnight, like from 18:00PM to 09:00AM next day.
- Refined the display of rules in Packet Filtering, Virtual Servers, QoS Rules, etc to be more readable.
- Refine the DNS configuration to specify explicitly DNS setting is obtained fr om ISP or configured.
- Fixed the creating Firewall Packet Filter Rule bug.
- Partially fix the issue of accepting wrong MAC address in Fixed Host create/edit WEB.
- Version 4.56p4 [Internal BETA]
- Now indicates an error when creating a Virtual Server with the same name or port.
- Improved the checking of creating QoS rules, but still no error indication given.
- Included a temporary workaround to issue "changes not effected as another management entity has altered the information model" error which occurred sometimes when configuring firewall packet filter.
- Check MAC address format when adding Fixed Host.
- Change the QoS webpage to remove the horizontal scroll.
- Move Packet Filter inbound/outbound column to right side.

- The Candidates function in Ethernet/Wireless Client Filter does not work properly under Mozilla and Firefox 0.9.3 or 1.0 and may result in a pop-up Javascript error message;
- Users of some SIP (VoIP) products may experience difficulties establishing a connection.
- Version 4.56r [Internal BETA]
- New features:
- Added IKE purpose function in the IPSec web page.
- Added PING function for keeping VPN tunnel alive always in the IPSec advanced page.
- Added new option to specify timeout/aunt connect value in the IPSec advanced page.
- Added wildcard option in DDNS web page (for www.dyndns.org only).

- If the IPSec remote gateway was set as domain name, the remote gateway was always 0.0.0.0 in IPSec status.

- Known issues:
- When using the Candidates in Ethernet/Wireless Client Filter under firefox 0.9.3 or 1.0; there will pop-up Java script error message.
- Current NAT ALG can not work with Hotsip (VoIP softphone).
- Version 4.57, 10 January 2005
- All versions between 4.56r and 4.57 were internal beta revisions. New features and bug fixes from those revisions are included in this release.
- New features:
- Update some translation files.
- Add a default packet filter rule (9000/TCP outbound allow only) for MSN video.
- Modify to show the information of port in the Virtual Server page.
- Allow PC can access WEB GUI by using public IP in local network when virtual server is set.
- Limit username/password can not be longer than 20 characters in SNMP V3.
- Add a CLI command line to change timeout value of TCP session in real time.

- Version 4.58c, 5 May 2005 [Current Release]
- New features:
- Updated some translation files.
- Increased the max. RFC1483 packet length to accommodate Q-in-Q (two VLAN Tags) data.
- Added combo protocol (TCP/UDP) option for handling virtual server.
- Added TCP/8080 packet filter rule into default set of medium and low security level.
- Bug fixes:
- Fix an authentication error for Dynamic DNS on www.3322.org and wrong display for all Dynamic DNS servers when fail to update due to timeout.

Firware upgrade information
Free firmware upgrades are avilable for download from Billion's Australian
web site.
Beware: there are different firmware files available for each of the BIPAC-741GEV1,
BIPAC-741GEV2 and BIPAC-743GE ADSL routers. Download the correct version for your router!
Warning: Upgrading your firmware not without risk and is not for the faint of heart -
there is a chance that you may render your router inoperable and you may have to return it to Billion for repair.
Techno-geeks and mad hobbyists who like to live dangerously regularly ignore such warnings :-)
Tip: Always reset the 741 to factory defaults when you have upgraded the
firmware. In the web interface, Config -> System -> Restart Router, check the checkbox for reset to factory defaults and
press the Restart Router button. This syncs the stored config info (by replacing it with the new default data) with the
new information model of the new firmware. Not doing this after a firmware upgrade often causes strange behaviour.
